My passion as a coach is leading both students and adult clients to develop internal structure and attention on what matters in their lives: business, education, fun, family, relationships – all the ways passion makes a difference. My vision is healing the ADHD heart, not curing the brain but healing the experience of living with it.  My mission is to make a difference in the lives of people living with ADHD through:

Individual Coaching        Group Coaching

Consulting            School & Business Presentations

I support and motivate my coaching clients

  • working with attention and focus development in students and professionals for better relationships, academic standing and business success
  • Resolving sleep problems through Brainspotting, a type of brain-based trigger-point release
  • Guided imagery for problem resolution
  • Handwriting analysis to show a client’s personal relationship with attention – this assessment is used to show clients their attention status as it is expressed in their handwriting
  • Brain Solutions: a focused use of metaphor and meditation to develop right brain solutions to elusive problems
  • Left brain skill development (organization and prioritizing) and support for creative people who are right brain dominant

ADD Coaching is:

  • humanistic in nature. Clients are accepted unconditionally in their presenting situation.
  • a collaboration and partnership. I honor your experience and perspective.
  • discovery. Are the present beliefs working for you?
  • about movement – guiding you to be in the flow of your life and toward the development and achievement of your goals.
  • affirming of your right and capacity for self-direction.
  • facilitating your goals.
  • supporting of self-initiation.
  • preparatory – what will you do when x happens?
  • intentional.
  • reflective.
  • affirmative.

Coaching is based on a Five Stage Model for Change

1. precontemplation

2. contemplation

3. Preparation

4. Action

5. maintenance

Coaching is carried out in a safe environment for change to occur by:

  • Promoting insight
  • Promoting self-evaluation
  • Making a commitment to act
  • Identifying and avoiding situations that produce non-productive behaviors (i.e., being late)
  • Using rewards for goal attainment
  • Role playing
  • Exploration of the problem/challenge from a different perspective
  • Encouraging self-advocacy
  • Encouraging supportive relationships both professional and personal

This definition of ADD Coaching describes the backbone of a coaching relationship. It is derived from a presentation at CHADD National Conference 2009 in Cleveland, OH developed by Sandy Maynard.

My favorite endorsement:

I learned more about ADHD from Maureen in one hour than I did in six months with my psychiatrist. Photographer L. B., age 48

Maureen is a gem as an ADD coach and mentor.  Her gentle guidance helped me reclaim  and embrace skills, strengths and resources I already had, and encouraged me to own them.  Her clear and focused approach helped me prioritize issues and projects and pave the way for growth and new opportunities. Her flexible work style is perfect for short or long term collaboration.  She’s always available as a sounding board to help you find your own solutions and point you in the right direction.  I will continue to work with her in the years to come.

This afternoon was the first time in my adult life that I was able to converse with another person about my ADD. Thank you for showing me the computer program that I will be able to use; the one that will read back my letters and documents will get daily use. James, age 65

Personal

I live in Decatur, Georgia  …  in an old growth oak forest, on the watershed to the Atlantic on the Continental Divide. I am the mom of two adult children who themselves have struggled with ADD and still manage the continuing challenges of ADHD and its co-morbidities.  My daughter is an amazing, intelligent young woman who is 25, married and out in the retail world; and my creative, musical son who still attends college at 23, is musical and works as a carpenter.

My other passion is that of jewelry design,  Meshmerised. I make mesh-based, mesmerising adornments for women and men, fabricated from precious and craft wire, semi-precious and seed beads. I use peyote stitching and incorporate copper annealing techniques, precious metals and sometimes anything that strikes my fancy. My work is in the Decatur Artists Market and Gallery in Decatur, Ga.  from October through December 2009.
